1. Course Description
The 2+ days course (+ online Pre Course Study including Rider Profile and Question Paper) follows the same syllabus as the Trail Leader but trains and assesses the candidate’s ability to coach and lead at a higher level and in more challenging environments including overseas.The award has an Expedition and Overseas module.
This higher level award is obtainable by more experienced cyclists with a strong coaching and leading background. 
The course can be done as a Combined Level 1 TL & Level 2 TTL for the more experienced rider.

2. Aim
The aim of the course is to train and assess TL’s or equivalent candidates to lead and coach intermediate level mountain biking. It is also aimed at training and assessing the candidate’s theoretical and practical ability in, navigation, safety and group management, trailside maintenance, planning and risk assessments, coaching (Sports Coach UK modules) and instruction, emergency procedures.

3. Pre Course Standards
3.1. Minimum age 18 years
3.2. 40 off road rides of over 5 hours including leading groups.
3.3. Competent Level 2 personal cycling skills
3.4. A background in coaching and leading individuals and group
3.5 Proficient in a hill walking environment
4. Liabilities and Limitations
4.1. Instructor to student ratio 1:6
4.2. A valid first aid certificate must be held
4.3. Leading and coaching on cycle permitted areas or unmarked cycle trails with a risk assessment and a maximum of one hour away from help
4.4. Terrain can be up to and including Difficult.
4.5. Terrain must not be defined as mountainous unless technically proficient in that Terrain.
4.6 Must be operating within the limitations of their current logbook experience
5. Course Outcomes
5.1. Fail – must re-sit the course after a minimum time of 6 months and completion of an action plan.
5.2. Defer – must apply for a one day assessment after completion of an action plan.
5.3. Pass – further coaching and leading experience, complete action plan and book and apply for the Mountain Bike Coach MBC award.
6. Assessment Reports and Award
Upon successful completion of the course the candidate will receive a verbal report by the course tutor, and a written report will be issued, along with an action plan which should be kept as an integral part of the candidate’s logbook. (MBCUK logbook is a key reference manual).
The ABCC will issue a membership and coaching licence along with the insurance document. The candidates name and details will be input on to the ABCC and MBCUK coaching database (ICO Data protected). The award remains current by keeping an up to date logbook and showing continued personal development within the relevant cycling activities.
